Noise Pollution is Harming Our Health, Environment and Quality of Life.
Noise Harms Health
Excessive noise disrupts sleep, increases stress, and impacts long-term health.
- OUR CURRENT FOCUS
From Awareness to Action, We Support Every Step of Change
Noise Pollution & Public Health
Excessive noise is linked to cardiovascular disease, sleep disruption, anxiety, PTSD, and learning challenges. Understanding the science behind noise pollution is the first step toward meaningful change.
Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers
Gas-powered leaf blowers create unnecessary noise and emit harmful exhaust at ground level. Many communities are transitioning to quieter, cleaner alternatives that protect health and quality of life.
Illegally Modified Vehicle Exhaust Systems
Illegally modified exhaust systems on cars, trucks, and motorcycles are a major source of harmful noise and air pollution. These modifications often violate existing laws and significantly impact neighborhoods and public spaces.
- Protect Our Health
WHY THIS MATTERS
Chronic noise exposure contributes to:
- Heart disease and high blood pressure
- Sleep disruption and fatigue
- Anxiety, PTSD, Depression and cognitive development
- Learning difficulties in children
- Hearing damage
- OUR APPROACH
How we are working to help reduce noise pollution
01

Raise Awareness
Awareness is the first step in moving closer to a solution. We are working to educate the public about the real impacts of noise pollution– on our health, sleep, children’s ability to learn, wildlife and community well-being– using research, data, real world examples and clear messaging.
02

Expose illegal Noise
We highlight illegal modified vehicle exhaust systems on cars, trucks, and motorcycles that are harming us all. Laws are currently in place that prohibit these alterations. We are working to encourage public officials to enforce existing laws and update them where needed, as this issue continues to evolve and escalate.
03

Empower Residents
We provide tools, talking points, and simple action steps so residents can speak up—at city council meetings, with neighbors, and directly to local officials.
04

Support & Policy
We share proven solutions, emerging enforcement technologies, and successful ordinances to help communities and lawmakers take effective, measurable action.
05

Build a Community
We connect advocates, experts, and concerned residents to share success stories, resources, and momentum—because lasting change happens together.
Real People. Real Impact.
It’s not just a minor annoyance; it’s a constant disruption to our family life. Just as I finally get my toddler to sleep, a car with a modified exhaust screams down our street, waking her up instantly. Our neighborhood should be a place of peace, not a racetrack for loud mufflers.
Working from home has become a challenge. During professional calls, I constantly have to mute myself because the roar of modified engines outside is so loud it sounds like the cars are inside my office. The lack of enforcement on noise ordinances is affecting our productivity and mental health.
I’ve lived in this community for thirty years, and the noise pollution from these high-decibel exhaust systems is the worst it’s ever been. It makes sitting on my front porch unbearable. We need to prioritize the well-being of residents over the desire for a loud vehicle.
I work the night shift, so I sleep during the day. The 'pop-and-bang' tunes on these modified cars are like gunshots going off outside my window. It’s impossible to get restorative sleep when a single driver can disturb an entire block of sleeping neighbors.
Together, We Can Restore Quiet
Stop The Noise WA is building a community of informed, motivated citizens working toward healthier neighborhoods and stronger laws.
